New Delhi: Defying India’s claim, Nepal has decided to include Lipulekh and Kalapani in its official map.
The Nepal government took the decision following at a meeting of the council of ministers chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The new Nepal map showing seven provinces and administrative divisions including Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura will be published soon, said the neighbouring country’s foreign minister Pradeep Gyawali in a tweet.
Though there was no official response to the development immediately, the external affairs ministry has said Lipulekh is within the territory of India. It was at the centre of a row over the construction of a road to the border with China.
Defence minister Rajnath Singh recently opened the 80-km road that ends at Lipulekh Pass. It was built to prevent pilgrims to Kailash-Mansarovar from passing through high-altitude routes in Sikkim and Nepal.
