Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police will remain committed to help the poor and helpless and fight against the criminals, said new DGP Sunil Kumar Bansal on Saturday.
Extending his best wishes to people of the state on the occasion of New Year in a video message, Bansal said serving the poor, marginalised, needy and helpless people and bringing the tribals in remote areas closer to the mainstream of society will be the top priority of the police.
Sending a tough message to the criminals and those engaged in organised crime, he said violation of security of innocent people would be dealt with a stern hand.
Seeking people’s cooperation in this regard, the DGP said, “Odisha police will try its best to prevent crimes. However, we need the people’s support to be successful in our efforts.”
Stating that the chief minister has reposed a lot of confidence in him, he said he will strive to work for safety and security of women and senior citizens in the state.
It may be noted that Bansal, a 1987 batch IPS officer, took charge from outgoing DGP Abhay on Friday. He was on Central deputation and served as Special Director, Intelligence Bureau (IB), before being appointed as Odisha DGP.
