Jagatsinghpur: The ‘romance-turned-sour’ saga of Tirtol BJD MLA Bijay Shankar Das and wife-to-be Somalika has taken a new turn with a purported audio clip of the latter’s father hurling abuses and threatening to kill the legislator in an inebriated condition going viral.
The family members said that they would soon be filing a complaint with police against Somalika and her father Kesari Das on the basis of the threat message.
On June 18, Somalika had lodged a complaint at Jagatsinghpur police station, accusing the MLA of cheating and harassment after he, what she claimed, failed to turn up for marriage registration. She further alleged that she and her family are being threatened by MLA’s relatives. A day later, she accused Bijaya of running a sex racket and named five other persons in her fresh complaint.
Responding to this complaint, the MLA’s cousin Arati Das said that these allegations are false and baseless. “It is an attempt to tarnish the image of our family. Instead, it is Somalika’s father who has threatened to kill my brother,” she said.

Arati also requested Jagatsighpur SP to initiate action on basis of facts.
Seeking police protect for the legislator, his uncle Manas Das alleged that the family is being pilloried by a social activist and a female cop of the commissionerate police.
On June 19, the MLA had told the media that he was ready to marry her. “I have never said no to the marriage. In fact, I have announced it before the media and the public. So, the question of cheating does not arise,” he added.
He also refuted the allegations on operating a sex racket.

Notably, Somalika released some of their intimate pictures on social media when Bijay expressed his reluctance to marry her after differences cropped up between them. Following this, Bijay was under pressure to patch up with Somalika. With the mediation of their lawyers, both finally agreed to get married legally and applied for marriage registration at the office of the Sub-Registrar on May 17.
