Dubai: Two Indians were among five killed in a terrifying fire which broke out in a 35-storeyed residential tower with 750 apartments in Sharjah’s Al Nahda area.

At least 45 others were injured in the fire late on Thursday night.

The identities of the two deceased Indians were confirmed by family friends and social workers, reported Khaleej Times.

The 29-year-old woman, who was from Mumbai, had gone to the UAE after getting married in February.

“They got married in February in Madinah. The couple moved in to the building in Al Nahda where the tragic incident occurred,” the woman’s friend was quoted as saying.

Her husband is battling for his life at a hospital.

“Doctors said his condition is very critical… We are all praying for him,” said the friend.

The other Indian victim was Michael Sathyadass, a sound engineer who worked at DXB Live in Dubai World Trade Center. Paying tribute to Michael, his brother wrote on social media that he played a crucial role behind the scenes at concerts featuring artists like Bruno Mars and AR Rahman.

DXB Live described Michael as an employee with “exceptional dedication and loyalty” whose contributions had a “lasting impact,” and offered support to his family.

The Indian Consulate General also confirmed support for the families of the deceased and those injured.

Family members of the two deceased Indians have travelled to the UAE following the fire tragedy.

Social worker Ashraf Thamarassery said that the Indian woman might be buried in the UAE completing necessary procedures.

Investigation into the horrific fire is underway.

As per preliminary reports from the criminal laboratory, some waste lying in the hallway caught fire, resulting in the flames to rapidly rise up and spread to the residential apartments, reported Gulf News.
