Bhubaneswar: Nor’wester thundershowers, which brought down the maximum temperature by a few notches in Odisha on Sunday, is likely to continue for another 24 hours.
The respite from hot and sweltering condition may also extended for a week amid rainfall activity due to trough and moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal.
The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre has forecast thunderstorm and lightning activity with gusty wind at one or two places in 12 districts on Monday. Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Angul, according to the weather agency.
Earlier in the day, it had issued yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning and light to moderate rain for Baragarh, Jharsuguda, Sundergarah, Sambalpur, Deogarah, Angul, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts till 10.10 am.
On Sunday, many places recorded a drop in the day temperature by 2 to 4 degree. Malkangiri was the only place in Odisha to record over 40 degree Celsius. Bhubaneswar, where the mercury touched 37.2 degree Celsius during the day, saw a sharp fall in the night temperature amid nor’wester showers. Cuttack recorded 35.6 degree Celsius.
While the mercury is expected to rise by 2 to 3 degree Celsius across many places after 3 days, the day temperature is expected to remain normal during most parts of the week.
