Berhampur: Ahead of Rath Yatra, Satya Maharana of Berhampur has carved a 1 mm sculpture of Lord Jagannath in ‘Gambhari’ wood, which he claims to be the smallest idol in the world.
The 36-year-old has set 25 international and national records by creating the smallest artefacts in different mediums, including wood, chalk, soap and sand again.
“I sculpted this idol to celebrate the ‘Naba Jaubana Besha’ of the Lord,” Satya said.
The sibling deities were adorned in this Besha, which signifies the youthful vigour, on Friday after recuperating at the Anasara Ghar inside the 12th-century shrine in Puri for 14 days.
The Lords had supposedly fallen ill after the luxurious bath with 108 pitchers of aromatic and herbal water from the golden well on the temple premises on the occasion of Snana Purnima on June 24.
In June last year, Satya had made an idol of Lord Jagannath, which stood at the height of only 2 mm. It has been a transition from 1 cm to 5mm, 4mm and 3 mm. All these idols were made with Gambhari and teak wood and beautifully coloured.
Satya had shot to fame with a chariot of Lord Jagannath measuring 1 mm in height and 1 mm in width. The miniature Rath in teak wood was recognized by the ‘Exclusive World Records’ (EWR) as the world’s smallest chariot in 2020.
He started making smaller version of the Lord Jagannath’s chariot in 2016 with a height of 14 inches and idol of Lord Jagannath that was 1.4 inches high.
