Cuttack: The body of a kanwariya, who was swept away in the Mahanadi near Bhadimula Ghat in Odisha’s Cuttack city, was recovered on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Biswajit Behera (22), a resident of Tinigharia.
According to sources, Biswajit drowned while fetching water from the river for the Jalalagi ritual on Sunday evening. He was to travel to Asthasambu temple with the river water for the third Sawan Somwar, an important Hindu fasting observance dedicated to Lord Shiva during the month of Shravan.
Fire service personnel had initiated an operation last evening to trace him. It was paused overnight and resumed this morning, leading to recovery of his body.
