Cuttack: An elderly couple, who had allegedly attempted suicide along with their son by consuming pesticide, succumbed while undergoing treatment at the SCB medical college and hospital (MCH) in Odisha’s Cuttack city on Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as Uma Charan Panda (84) and his wife Sarojini (76). The incident had taken place on Thursday night.

Condition of their son Soumya Ranjan (4o) is stable, hospital sources said.

The three-member family, native of Berhampur, had been residing in rented accommodation at CDA Sector-6 in Markat Nagar here for the last two years. It is suspected that the family was undergoing a financial crisis. While Uma Charan was a retired advocate, Soumya Ranjan was staying with his parents for the last four months after being laid off from his job as a software engineer with a private company in Bengaluru.
