Bhubaneswar: Odisha government will present the annual budget for 2024-25 in the Assembly in second week of February coming year.
Stating this in a letter to all departments on Friday, Vishal Kumar Dev, principal secretary, Finance department, has directed to prepare their budget estimates and submit the proposals to his department by December 15.
Since the government will present the full budget in second week of February, Dev has told the secretaries and heads of all departments to speed up the budget preparation by taking the revised estimates of 2023-24 financial year into consideration.
He has further directed the departments to draw up the expenditure proposals in the line of the 2023-24 budget.
Stating that the coming year’s budget estimate is likely to be 12% more than this financial year, the Finance secretary said the state is expected to maintain its present economic growth of 8% to 8.5% in the coming financial year though the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has pegged the national growth at 6.5%.
However, he advised the departments to keep the government’s 2030 target in mind and take various indices including eradication of poverty, women empowerment, social justice, health services for all, education, skill empowerment, drinking water, rural electrification, hygiene and sanitation, sports and urban infrastructure into consideration while preparing the budget proposals.
