Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) will probe into the alleged murder of Amruta Das, who was working as an engineer in Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district.
The OHRC on Monday directed its investigation wing to collect all documents from police and submit a probe report during its next hearing on the matter on February 22.
The Commission took up the case on the basis of a complaint by filed by the deceased’s mother, Sulochana Das.
In her complaint, Sulochana alleged that her son was murdered by a gang of 10-12 miscreants at Balipatna Chhak in Tirtol on July 20 last year.
Following the incident, she had lodged a police complaint naming Arun Patnaik, son of retired Army personnel Basant Nayak, and his associates as the accused.
Sulochana further alleged that though she had requested the Jagatsinghpur SP for a thorough probe into the incident, police only registered a case of unnatural death. Later, the Sadar SDPO submitted a final report stating that the death of her son was due to a road accident.
Protesting against the alleged apathy by police, Sulochana and her youngest son Subrat had attempted self-immolation near the State Assembly in Bhubaneswar on November 28.
