Bhubaneswar: Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Jena on Tuesday directed the collectors of the districts having border check posts to accommodate the migrants coming from outside the State in their areas in view of super cyclone Amphan.
Jena said wind and rainfall activities have already started in Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara districts on the impact of the approaching Amphan. These districts are most likely to be affected by the cyclone which is forecast to move towards West Bengal on Wednesday evening.
Though many migrants are returning to these districts on bus, it is not advisable to allow them to proceed on road while the cyclone will be active. Hence, they should be stopped at the check posts in border districts and accommodated there till Amphan crosses Odisha.
Directing the collectors of border districts to arrange accommodation for the returnees in temporary medical centres and cyclone shelters, the SRC said if they fall short of accommodation, they can seek help from their neighbouring districts.
