Bhubaneswar: One person died while 10 others were injured as an auto-rickshaw in which they were travelling rammed a roadside tree on Sambalpur-Sonepur state highway on Tuesday.
The deceased and the injured belong to Bisipali village in Bargarh district.
According to sources, the accident took place when they were on their was to Huma Temple,, the leaning temple of Lord Shiva, on the bank of the Mahanadi in Sambalpur. The injured were initially rushed to Sambalpur district headquarters hospital for treatment. Nine among them were later shifted to VIMSAR, Burla.
Overcrowding of the auto, which the victims had reserved for the trip, is suspected to have lead to the accident.
Meanwhile, police have seized the vehicle and initiated an investigation.
