Bhawanipatna: This panchayat elections in the state have witnessed several innovative ideas adopted by the candidates to woo the voters. In one such out of box concept, a woman contestant in Kalahandi district has been found distributing lottery tickets to win over the electorate.
Sasmita Nayak has filed her nomination papers for the sarpanch post of Kuhura panchayat under Golmunda block. During door-to-door campaign in villages, Sasmita carries a pad of the lottery tickets printed by herself and distributes those to the villagers while telling them to vote for her on her ‘open umbrella’ symbol.
She has told the voters that the names of the winners of the lottery will be announced on March 13. Whoever wins the lottery taken from her free of cost can avail the prizes on the date.
Stating that she will hand over the prizes to the winners herself at a function in Kuhura panchayat ground if she wins the election, Sasmita said there are 1300 prizes to win from the lottery. The prizes include gifts of gold, silver and other materials, sources said.
It may be mentioned that in a new trend this election, the candidates have been found carrying their poll symbols like fish, pen, lantern, cattle and even cycle rickshaw during the campaign.
