Malkangiri: Malkangiri district on Wednesday launched the convalescent plasma therapy with the treatment of three COVID-19 patients at a COVID hospital here.
Shahid Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital will serve as a bank from where the plasma will be supplied to treat patients.
The Odisha government has been ramping up plasma therapy facilities in the state due to the high success rate of this treatment.
In this process, the plasma is separated from the blood of a donor, who has recovered from COVID-19, and injected to the recipient patient to allow the antibodies in it to fasten the recovery process.
SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, VIMSAR, Burla, and Ispat General Hospital, Rourkela, are providing this service.
