Nabarangpur: Police have apprehended a minor from a village in Odisha’s Ganjam district for allegedly duping a man of over Rs 1 lakh through an app on mobile phone.
According to sources, Gokula Biswas of Sanakhadaka village under Umerkote block of Nabarangpur district received a call on his mobile phone a few days back, requesting him to approve an application (app) sent to his phone. Without doubting any foul game, Gokula approved the app. Soon after, he got an SMS alert from his bank that Rs 1.05 lakh had been debited from his account.
Realising that he had become a victim of cyber fraud, Gokula filed a complaint at Umerkote police station. Following investigation, the police with the help of cyber police tracked the phone number from which Gokula had received the call.
The police traced the phone number to a minor boy belonging to Balipadar village in Ganjam district. Umerkote police went to the village and apprehended the boy, said Umerkote SDPO Shubhendu Sabar.
The police have also seized a laptop used in the cyber fraud, 3 ATM cards, 5 cheque books, 2 bank passbooks and Rs 1.05 lakh in cash from the possession of the boy, the SDPO added.
