Cuttack: Voting for electing office bearers of all 153 bar associations in Odisha was conducted peacefully between 8 am and 3 pm on Saturday.
Sources said over 33,434 lawyers were expected to case their votes. While counting of votes started an hour later, results are expected by 10 pm, except for member of executive body for which counting will be held on Sunday.
In Cuttack, 4297 lawyers voted for various posts of office bears in the Orissa High Court Bar Association at 37 booths. The entire process was video recorded and provision was also made for live streaming of the polling exercise. Members aged above 90 have been allowed to vote from home.
Notably, the Bar Council of India had earlier lifted the suspension on 54 lawyers in Sambalpur for protesting and ransacking the court premises in 2022. Names of these lawyers were later included in the voter list in the Bar Council Election.
