Puri: With four tourists having met their watery grave in two days, the Puri administration on Friday put up red flags, denoting high surf and/or strong currents, in Sector-12, 13 and 14 near Swargadwar to prevent further mishaps in the sea on the occasion of Chandra Yatra.

All the deceased were from West Bengal.

While a man and his son drowned in the seas a huge tide came and swept them away while they were enjoying at the beach with their friends on March 3. They were identified as 50-year-old Ranjan Das and 16-year-old son Reshuv Das. They hailed from West Bengal’s Howrah district.

Two more tourists drowned in the same area of the sea beach the following day. One among them was identified as Arindam Das of Hooghly in the neighbouring state.

Notably, the sea witnesses high tides on full moon, which also falls on Friday.  Around each new moon and full moon, the sun, Earth, and moon arrange themselves more or less along a line in space. Then the pull on the tides increases, because the gravity of the sun reinforces the moon’s gravity.
