Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Thursday issued a show-cause notice to the authorities of the Kendriya Vidyalaya-1 in Odisha capital for flouting its order on extension of summer vacation till June 25.
The Revenue and Disaster Management Department issued the notice after receiving reports that the authorities have opened the schools and started conducting classes.
In a letter, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi has asked the school Principal to explain as to why action under Section51 (b) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 should not be initiated against him for violating the government order.
The Principal has been asked to submit an explanation within three days failing which the government will take appropriate action.
However, the school authorities were not available for comments on the issue, sources said.
Notably, the School and Mass Education Department on June 16 had extended summer vacations for all government and private schools up to June 21 due to the intense heatwave. As the heatwave persisted, it re-extended the vacation period till June 25 for the safety of the children.
