Srinagar: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Mohammad Yaseen Malik was arrested from his Maisuma residence on Thursday morning to prevent him from participating in the shutdown by called by separatists in the Valley.
Notably, the separatists had called for a general strike in protest against the killing of senior journalist Shujaat Bukhari by gunmen and civilians in security force action.
As per the information published in national dailies, Malik was to lead a protest march in the civil lines where Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), an amalgamation of separatist groups comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Omar Farooq and Malik, called for a protest shutdown against the civilian killings and assassination of Bukhari.
In a statement on Tuesday, JRL had said there had been a sudden rise in civilian killings since the eve of Eid and demanded an international probe into Bukhari’s killing.
