Chennai: Legendary singer SP Balasubramanyam, 74, who had tested positive for COVID-19, passed away today.
He was undergoing treatment at a hospital here on August 5 after he showed mild symptoms. His condition had deteriorated in the last 24 hours and he was put on life support, Times Of India (TOI) reported.
The singer reportedly had mild fever on Wednesday and the hospital authorities had stated that he was critical.
Director Venkat Prabhu was the first to share the news on his Twitter page.
The legendary singer had sung over 1000 songs for Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam films. He was honored with Padma Shri in 2001 and Padma Bhushan in 2011for his contribution to cinema.
