Cuttack: Tension ran high at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Sunday
when some spectators broke the barricade of the stadium over
unavailability of tickets for the T20 international cricket match
between India and Sri Lanka scheduled for December 20.
According to reports, the cricket fans, who were standing in queues at
three counters of the stadium since Saturday night, broke the stadium
barricade and vandalised the ticket counters after they came to
know that the tickets for gallery no 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7 were sold out
in counter no 2 and 3.
“We will not tolerate such irregularities in ticket sale. The
authorities must keep a close watch on sale of tickets and ensure
availability of tickets, which has become one of the major concerns
for the spectators”, an agitator said.
Following the incident, two platoons of police force were deployed on
the spot to prevent any untoward incident.
A total of 10, 362 tickets were sold to the institutions affiliated to
Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) on December 15 and 16.
