Phulbani: The State Government’s decision to suspend admissions to the Kalinga B.Ed College for the academic session 2021-22 has drawn flak from a large section of people, especially the tribal populace of Kandhamal district.

Terming the Government decision to halt admissions to the professional college for one session as “anti-tribal” a representative group of Utkal Kui Samaj Friday met local tehsildar to submit a memorandum addressed to the District Collector.

The State Government set up the B.Ed College under the Tribal Welfare Department in 2008 on the demands of the Kui Society after the Kandhamal riots. Several educated tribal youth of the district and other districts reaped the benefit by taking admission in the college and found suitable employment. While the Centre spends crores of rupees for the tribal and backward people in Odisha, the closure of the college on the pretext of paucity of funds by the state government is a travesty of truth, alleged the Kui society.

Led by All Utkal Kui Society president Bhimsen Pradhan, the memorandum was presented to Tehsildar Dr Janmejaya Sahu demanding resumption of B.Ed admissions to Kalinga college within a month. The delegation comprising unit president Santanu Pradhan, general secretary Narottam Pradhanଖା, Abaneswar Pradhan, Mangovid Pradhan and Mayabandhu Pradhan among others warned of a stir if the government ignored their genuine demands.
