Jajpur: A 40-year-old man allegedly killed a tantric at a village in Odisha’s Jajpur district for failure to bring back his estranged wife as promised by the deceased, reports said.
The accused, identified as Santanu Behera, had sought the help of the tantrik to bring his wife back as she had been staying with their two children at her parental house for the past few months after the relationship turned sour, police said.
Behera, a resident of Bandhagaon under the jurisdiction of Sukinda Police Station, had paid Rs 5,000 to tantric Mania Babar, who had promised to bring the woman back, they said.
An altercation erupted when the tantrik visited Behera’s house on Friday as the accused demanded return of his money following the failure to fulfill the work. In a fit of rage, Behera attacked Babar with a sharp weapon and the tantric died on the spot. Later, he surrendered before police with the weapon used in the crime.
Sources said the deceased was a nomad who originally hailed from Maharashtra and was staying with his wife in a rented house in the area.
