Bhubaneswar: With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting no large change in the day in the next 5 days, the mercury is likely to soar to 44 degree Celsius in Odisha’s Sambalpur by June 5.
The day temperature is likely to hover around 42-43 degree Celsius in the western Odisha town and adjacent districts on the remaining days. Sambalpur was the hottest place in the state on Tuesday at 43.3 degree Celsius.
The MeT office has also forecast isolated thunderstorm activity across the state during this period. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and Khurda till 8.30 am on Thursday. Thunderstorm with lightning may also occur at one or two places in Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Koraput, Rayagada, Sundargarh, Deogarh and Jharsuguda. There is also a forecast for light to moderate rain at a few places in coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput and at one or two places in remaining parts of the state.
