Bhubaneswar: Maruti Suzuki has launched an updated version of its most premium product – the S –Cross. The new model starts at ₹ 8.49 Lakhs ex-showroom, Delhi.
The major cosmetic change is a new front grill. The other major upgradation is the addition of the Smart Hybrid technology which has been present in a few other Maruti diesel cars such as the Ciaz and Ertiga. This technology has enabled the new S-Cross to ‘bring down emissions in the all-new S-Cross to as low as 105.5 gm/km’, according to the company’s managing director and CEO Kenichi Ayukawa.
Another change is the discontinuation of the 1.6 litre DDiS 320 engine. The car is now powered by the 1.3 litre DDiS 200 diesel engine with Smart Hybrid tech integration. It outputs 90 bhp of power and 200 Nm of torque. It is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The Smart Hybrid tech is essentially a mild hybrid that saves fuel by using idle-stop-start, torque assist and regenerative braking methods. The ARAI rated fuel efficiency is now 25.1 kmpl, up by 1.54 kmpl. Currently, there are no petrol or automatic variants.
All the variants come with dual airbags and ABS. Maruti claims that the new S-Cross is compliant with upcoming new safety norms and has been tested for frontal offset crash, side impact and pedestrian safety at their new crash test centre in Rohtak. A rear seat ISO-FIX child seat safety mount is also standard across the range.
The interiors have been updated with a new satin chrome accented soft touch dashboard. The piano black centre houses the new infotainment system which has Android Auto and Apple Car Play. New LED projector lamps, LED tail-lights and LED day time running lamps have also been added.
The S-Cross now comes with five colour options – nexa blue, pearl arctic white, caffeine brown, premium silver and granite grey. Black is still not available.
The new S-Cross variants are priced (ex-showroom, Delhi) as follows:
Sigma – Rs 8.49 lakhs
Delta – Rs 9.39 lakhs
Zeta – Rs 9.98 lakhs
Alpha – Rs 11.29 lakhs
The new S-Cross is available only at Maruti’s premium NEXA outlets. There are two such showrooms in Bhubaneswar and one in Cuttack.
