Bhubaneswar: Vedanta Ltd has appointed Dr Tapan Kumar Chand as Resident Director, Odisha and Chhattisgarh. He assumed office on Friday.
An official release said that Chand, former CMD NALCO and currently Independent Director of BALCO, will be responsible for bauxite security and setting up the Aluminium Park project in Jharsuguda and Chhattisgarh.
“He will also look after operationalisation of three coal blocks that Vedanta recently won in an auction in Odisha, branding, positioning and advocacy for aluminium business,” it added.
This high-level appointment comes in the wake of Vedanta pushing for emerging as the second-largest producer of aluminium in the world with 3-million-tonne aluminium and 6-million-tonne alumina capacity.
Das holds a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in arts, public administration and history from Utkal University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in law from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, and a diploma in social welfare (labour welfare) from the University of Calcutta. He graduated as a gold medalist from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar.
He has been in the mining and metal sector since 1982, earlier serving as the director commercial of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited/Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and Director Personnel & Director I/c (Sales & Marketing) of Central Coalfields Limited.
