Jharsuguda: The Assistant Director of Factories and Boilers on Monday banned operations at the Green Anode Plant (GAP) of Smelter-2 of Vedanta plant in Jharsuguda district after a fire mishap on July 6.

A labourer, Bishikeshan Pradhan, sustained burn injuries in the fire.

The action was taken after the Assistant Director of Factories and Boilers investigated the incident.

According to preliminary investigation, HTM (Heat Transfer Medium) oil leaked from a flange of the kneader equipment, which subsequently caused the fire.

The restriction was imposed under Section 40 (2) of the Factories Act, 1948 and will remain in force till further orders.

A comprehensive fire safety audit will also be conducted in the plant.

A major fire had broken out at Green Anode Plant in Vedanta on Saturday.

On being informed, fire service personnel reached the spot and doused the flame.
