Secretary of the voluntary organisation Sangita Swain, had in March this year, alleged before NHRC that despite Odisha having the highest number kidney related cases in the country, the State Government was being lax in addressing the issue.

She had claimed that over 2.10 lakh people were suffering from kidney related ailments in Odisha and had demanded free health check up for them. She had also demanded a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to each of the patients and Rs 50 lakh to the kin of the deceased.
