Vigilance Court Sentences 2 Former Odisha Govt Officials To Rigorous Imprisonment In Corruption Case

Bhubaneswar: A Vigilance court has sentenced two former employees of Odisha government to rigorous imprisonment in a corruption case in Boudh district.

The two officials are Narendra Kumar Dalai, former Farm Superintendent, Paljhar Farm, Boudh (discharged from service) and Sudhir Kumar Rout, former Junior Clerk in the office of Farm Superintendent, Paljhar.

Odisha Vigilance had filed chargesheet against them for misappropriation of GPF loan deduction amounts of 14 employees of Paljhar Farm from 2001 to 2003 by manipulating and tampering official records.

After hearing the case, Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani convicted both Dalai and Rout under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c)(d) of PC Act, 1988 and sentenced them to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 4 years each and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000. In default of payment of fine, they have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 6 more months each.

The court further sentenced them to undergo RI for 4 years each and pay fine of Rs 10,000 for the offence under Section 409 of IPC. In default of payment of fine, they have to undergo RI for 6 more months. The court also sentenced them to RI for 4 years each and pay fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 120-B of IPC. In default of payment of fine, they have to undergo RI for 6 more months. All the sentences against both the convicts are to run concurrently, the court ruled.

Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for dismissal of Rout from service.
