Vigilance Detains Tehsildar For Taking Rs 1.15 Lakh Bribe In Odisha’s Rayagada

Rayagada: Vigilance has detained a tehsildar for allegedly taking a bribe of over Rs one lakh in Odisha’s Rayagada district.

The Vigilance on Friday received reliable information that Bichitrananda Nayak, Tehsildar of Chandrapur in the district, had demanded and collected huge bribe amount and was proceeding towards Rayagada from Chandrapur with the cash.

A team of Odisha Vigilance tried to intercept him at Dangasarada on State Highway between Chandrapur and Muniguda. On seeing the Vigilance team, Nayak threw the bag containing the cash amounting to Rs 1,15,000 from his vehicle. The Vigilance team recovered the cash bag and seized it in presence of witnesses.

The Tehsildar rashly drove the vehicle in high speed, injuring a member of the Vigilance team, and managed to escape from the spot. Later, the Vigilance team traced him in Rayagada and detained him. Nayak was being questioned to ascertain the source of the recovered cash.

The Vigilance has also launched searches in the office and residential quarters of Nayak at Chandrapur and other locations.
