Vivo Set To Exit IPL 2020; BCCI In Hunt For New Sponsor

Mumbai: With clamour for ban on Chinese goods and companies getting louder in the country, Indian Premier League (IPL) title sponsor Vivo is set to part ways with the cash-rich T20 league at least for this year. The hunt for new sponsor has already begun in the corridors of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The development of Vivo’s exit from IPL 2020 came to the fore when a franchise took the onus on itself to inform the other franchises about Vivo’s impending exit from the IPL 2020.

However, it will be tough for the BCCI to bring in another sponsor at this short notice. The IPL is set to being in the UAE on September 19.

The idea of floating a tender to get a new sponsor may also get into rough patches as every decision at this hour needs to have Supreme Court approval. “Since matters are in the top court, BCCI cannot single-handedly float tenders for sponsors. It’s basically a time-taking process,” a person in the know of development told Odisha Bytes on Wednesday.

Chinese mobile phone brand Vivo’s exit from the IPL looked certain following the border skirmishes between India and China that resulted in 20 Indian jawans’ deaths last month.
