Sambalpur: A native of Dalkibahal village under Gobindpur police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district recently killed his sister-in-law and two-year-old nephew with an axe, allegedly over a family dispute.

The accused has been identified as Lochan Ping.

According to sources, late on Thursday, Lochan broke open the door of his sister-in-law Purnima Ping’s room and attacked her with an axe. He killed Purnima and then his toddler nephew who was sleeping.

Purnima’s husband was reportedly not at home at the time of the incident.

On being informed, police reached the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them for postmortem.

Lochan, who had managed to flee, was nabbed by police and is being interrogated.

Kuchinda SDPO also visited the village on Friday along with Gobindpur police.

Though the reason for the double murder is yet to be ascertained, it could be over a family dispute, sources said.
