Woman Dies, 40 Injured As Bus With Pilgrims Overturns In Balasore

Balasore: A woman was killed and 40 others suffered injuries after a bus carrying them overturned on National Highway-16 near Panapana village under Khantapada police limits in Balasore district on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Naseer Begum (45).

The accident took place around 6 am when the bus carrying 60 pilgrims was heading towards Dhamnagar in Bhadrak district from Howrah in West Bengal.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the ill-fated bus apparently lost control over the vehicle when a pick-up van came in front of it. The locals also alleged that the bus driver was over-speeding.

Those injured were rescued by police, fire personnel and locals and admitted to Soro and Khantapada hospitals for treatment.

The bus was badly damaged in the mishap.
