Bhubaneswar: Young bikers teamed up with traffic police for a rally to promote road safety in Odisha capital as a part of 29th Road Safety Week, on Sunday evening.
Rash driving by youngsters has always been a cause of concern. “Most boys of our age drive carelessly, without following rules or wearing a helmet, which is not only dangerous for them but for others on the road,” said Dibya Prakash Rath, a member of a city-based Dominar Owners Club (DOC).
They started the rally by collecting helmets and other equipment, meeting the ACP and IIC of traffic police and driving from AG Square to Patia with posters and placards displaying the need for road safety.
Stopping before zebra crossing, avoiding wrong-side driving, walking on the footpath and buckling up the seat belt, were some other things they created awareness on.
“We started our club for the same reason. We often carry out smaller rallies through bike rides to make people aware of different issues,” Dibya added.
