Cuttack: At least three police personnel were critically injured after being attacked allegedly cattle smugglers in Tigiria area of Odisha’s Cuttack district.
The incident took place at Gopinathpur Sasan Chhak under the jurisdiction of Tigiria police station late on Friday night when the police personnel were on a patrolling operation, sources said.
Apart from the Inspector-in-charge (IIC) of Tigiria police station, a Sub-Inspector (SI) and an Assistant Sub-Inspector (SI) were injured in the attack. They are undergoing treatment at Tigiria hospital.
Following the incident, police carried out a raid in the area and detained two cattle smugglers. Further investigation is on.
Acting on an information about transportation of cattle in trucks, a team of police personnel intensified patrolling in the area and intercepted a cattle-laden truck. However, the cattle smugglers fled the scene after mounting an attack on the police personnel, causing them grievous injuries.
The injured police perosnnel were later rescued and rushed to Tigiria hospital for treatment.
The detained persons are being questioned and further details are awaited.
