Balangir: One person was killed and over seven others sustained critical injuries as a car rammed into a wedding procession at a village in Odisha’s Balangir district.
Sources said the incident took place at Baghajharan village under the jurisdiction of Khaprakhole police station in the district when the car meant for carrying the bridegroom ran over the revelers and hit another vehicle.
The car, which had been taken on rent for carrying the bridegroom, reached the scene at high speed and suddenly ran over members of the barat when the processing had just begun late on Friday night.
A man, identified as Raja Bariha, died on the spot, while seven others sustained critical injuries after being hit by the car.
The injured persons were rushed to the Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital at Balangir where their condition was stated to be critical.
A team of police personnel reached the site and launched a probe into the incident. Further details are awaited.
