Kolkata: It was Mithun Chakraborty’s 71st birthday on Wednesday. But the day didn’t start well for the veteran Bollywood actor as he faced a Kolkata Police interrogation via virtual mode.
Mithun, who joined BJP earlier this year, was questioned about his using ‘inciteful’ language during campaigning for the saffron party ahead of the eight-phase West Bengal assembly elections, held in March-April.

An FIR was registered against Mithun, under Section 408 of Criminal Procedure Code at Maniktala police station. In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, he joined the probe in virtual mode.
According to Kolkata Police officials, the complainant stated that the actor-turned-politician had used dialogues from some of his films in his campaign speeches which were ‘inciteful’ in nature.
Mithun had approached the Calcutta High Court, seeking to get the FIR quashed. The court, however, directed him to cooperate with the police and join the probe virtually.
