Bhubaneswar: After reeling under heatwave for nearly 3 weeks, Odisha heaved a sigh of relief as the temperature dropped upto 10 degree Celsius on Tuesday.
According to evening bulletin of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum (day) temperature, which was constantly remaining over 40 degree Celsius during the period, came down substantially across the state due to thunderstorm activity accompanied by rain and gusty wind.
As many as 20 places in the state recorded maximum temperature of less than 35 degree Celsius. While Balangir and Titlagarh registered the maximum fall in temperature by 10 degree Celsius, interior places of the state recorded 8-9 degree fall on the day.
Balangir registered maximum temperature at 34.5 degree Celsius compared to 44.5 degree Celsius which was highest in the state on Monday. Similarly, Titlagarh recorded 34 degree Celsius compared to Monday’s 44 degree Celsius.
The temperature dropped to 32.5 degree Celsius with a fall of 7.3 degree in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack 33 degree Celsius with a drop of 4.2 degree.
The IMD has forecast that day temperature is very likely to fall by 2-3 degree Celsius during next 2 days and there will be no large change thereafter at many places in Odisha.
It has also issued orange warning for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput and Nabarangpur districts where thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and heavy rainfall is very likely in next 24 hours.
