Bhubaneswar: The English medium schools may come under the state government scanner, if the standing committee on School and Mass Education Department recommendations are accepted.
The committee comprising 11 MLAs made the recommendation after taking stock of the closure of government schools due to poor student strength in the state. It advised to set up a mechanism to regulate the English medium schools.
It has also asked the department to reconsider its decision on closure of the schools in remote areas due to poor accessibility of the students education there. The government can empower the collectors to appoint contractual teachers in the schools, if necessary, it suggested.
The committee’s other suggestions included concessional bus pass to the students of Adarsha Vidyalayas, more provision for science fund, recognition of ideal teachers, direct funding to schools from Local Area Development (LAD) fund of MLAs and increase in MLA’s discretional quota in Adarsha Vidyalaya to four.
