Bhubaneswar: An eight-year-old girl engaged for domestic work at the house of a child protection officer of Angul District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) was rescued on Monday.
A joint team of Childline officials and Laxmi Sagar police rescued the minor girl from Bhubaneswar railway station while she was returning to the residence of the officer, identified as Anuradha Nayak, from her village after celebrating Raja festival.
During inquiry, the team came to know that the child was working at Nayak’s residence for the last seven months.
She was reportedly engaged for cleaning the house and looking after the official’s baby.
Further investigation into the matter is underway. Attempts will be made to establish contact with the girl’s family members, a police officer informed.
