Bhubaneswar: With potato price showing little signs of stabilising for the second day, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Saturday informed that supply of the essential tuber from neighbouring West Bengal has normalised.
Taking to his X handle, Majhi, who is currently in Delhi, mentioned about his meeting with his Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee. He added that the issue was resolve after he requested her to streamline the potato supply chain.
The CM further stated that Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Krushna Chandra Patra has been visiting different godowns in the state and taking stock of the situation. “The state government is taking necessary steps to control the price rise and address the supply issue,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Patra said that the supply has resumed following talks with officials of the neighbouring state. “Potato price has started to drop and it is being sold at Rs 34-35/kg at different market places. Things will improve further once more trucks arrive in the state,” he told reporters.
These statements have come amid reports that potato-laden trucks have started arriving in Odisha from West Bengal through ‘illegal route’ and truckers are bribing police in border areas to let them in.

On Friday, hundreds of truck were left stranded at Laxmanath toll plaza on Odisha-Bengal border after the Bengal government paused potato exports to other states, leading to an indefinite strike by potato traders from July 21. Though the strike was called off on July 24, trucks carrying potatoes were not being allowed to cross West Bengal to regulate price of the essential commodity in that state.
