1 Dead, 20 Injured As Bus Overturns In Odisha’s Koraput

Koraput: One person died and 20 others were critically injured as a Berhampur-bound private bus from Malkangiri overturned close to National Highway 326 near Chhotaguda in Podagada under Odisha’s Koraput Sadar police limits late on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Narayana Rath of Chiliguda in Jeypore.

Police and Fire Department personnel reached the spot and rescued the passengers stuck inside the bus.

The injured were rushed to Podagarh Community Health Center (CHC), from where 10 critically injured were shifted to Shaheed Laxman Naik Medical College and Hospital in Koraput.

According to sources, the bus left Malkangiri at 5 pm with 40 passengers onboard and reached Koraput at 9 pm. The accident took place around 10:30 pm near Koraput’s Podagada when the bus was en route Berhampur.

Though the exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the driver lost control because of which the bus overturned
