Angul/Dhenkanal: A woman died after reportedly being hit by lightning at Jamar village under Palahada police limits in Angul district on Thursday evening.
She was identified as Sukanti Sahoo (40). The incident took place when she had gone to fetch water from a nearby tube well at 4.30 pm. She sustained critical burn injuries and was rushed to Palahada Hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead.
In Dhenkanal, five members of a family were critically injured when their house caught fire after being struck by lightning at Baghamunda village under Parajanga Kuturia panchayat.
The victims have been identified as Chiru Kerei (45), Surati Kerei (30), Gauranga Kerei (15), Tarun Kerei (8) and Lakshman Kerei (8).
The mishap took place at 6 pm on Thursday evening.
On being informed, fire tenders rushed to the spot and rescued the family members. They have been admitted to Kamakhyanagar Hospital and their condition is stated to be critical.
