Cuttack: One person was killed and three others sustained critical injuries after a violent clash erupted between two groups during immersion of Ganesh idol at a village in Khuntuni area of Odisha’s Cuttack district.
According to sources, the incident took place at Dhurusia village under the jurisdiction of Khuntuni police station in the district on Tuesday night.
The clash broke out following an altercation between two groups from Gopal Sahi and Dhurusia villages during the immersion of Ganesh idols. The altercation turned violent when both groups attacked each other with swords and sticks.
As the two groups fought a pitched battle, a minor boy was killed and three others were injured in the clash.
On being informed, a police team rushed to the spot and detained two persons in this connection.
The injured youths have been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack where their condition was stated to be critical.
Tension prevailed in the area after the incident and police forces have been deployed in the village to prevent any further flare up.
