Nayagarh: One person was killed and four others sustained injuries when miscreants opened fire at Krushnaprasad village under Itamati area of Odisha’s Nayagarh district on Monday.
According to reports, the deceased has been identified as Anirudha Nayak of Krushnaprasad village.
The miscreants, stated to be from the same village, opened several rounds of fire while the victims were standing on the road, causing them serious injuries.
Nayagarh Superintendent of Police Alekh Chandra Pahi said the injured were taken to the hospital and there is information about the death of one person.
Though the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that political rivalry and land dispute between two groups might have led to violent attack.
The injured persons are undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital at Nayagarh.
As tension prevailed in the area after the firing incindent, police personnel rushed to the spot and started investigation.
Police forces have been deployed in the area to prevent any further flare up. The SDPO and IIC concerned have been asked to visit the site and monitor the situation, the SP said.
Investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident and trace those involved in the shooting.
