1 Killed, 6 Injured As Molten Metal Falls On Workers At Private Steel Plant In Odisha’s Jajpur

Jajpur: A worker was killed and six others sustained injuries as molten metal reportedly fell on them at a private sponge iron plant in Kalinganagar industrial area of Odisha’s Jajpur district.

According to sources, the molten metal was being shifted with a crane at Maithan Ispat Limited on Thursday night when it fell on some contractual workers engaged in work.

While one of the workers was stated to have died due to burn on the spot, six others were critically injured in the mishsp.

Senior officials of the plant were not immediately available for comment.

The deceased was identified as Nitin Kumar of Uttar Pradesh. The injured have been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment.

All of them are stated to be contractual workers who were engaged in the plant by another firm.

Tension prevailed in and around the plant following the mishap. Police have taken necessary measures to prevent any untoward incident. An investigation into the incident is underway. Further details are awaited.
