Jharsuguda: A youth was killed and another critically injured in a violent attack by a group of miscreants in Belpahar area of Odisha’s Jharsuguda district on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Rahul Mahat, while Akash Sahu was grievously injured. Both hailed from Junadihi area o
f Belpahar town.
According to sources, four unidentified assailants arrived in a car and approached the two friends Rahul and Akash in the afternoon at Junadihi. Before the two could realise what was happening, the group brutally attacked them with a sharp weapon and fled the spot. Locals rushed to their rescue and informed Belpahar police.
The attack was so severe that Rahul died on the spot. Akash was immediately admitted to a hospital in Lakhanpur, where he is battling for his life.
Belpahar police arrived at the spot and have launched an investigation. Senior police officers including Brajarajnagar sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) and Jharsuguda SP also visited the crime scene.
