Sundargarh: One person was killed and owner of a roadside eatery sustained critical injuries when unidentified miscreants opened fire at the eating joint in Koira area of Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
Sources said around five bike-borne miscreants struck at the dhaba at Malda Dharmakanta late on Sunday night and fired several rounds, critically injuring eatery owner Ramesh Chatamba and his associate Ram Purti.
While the attackers fled the scene after committing the crime, locals rescued the two injured persons and rushed them to a hospital, where Ram was declared dead.
As Ramesh’s condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment.
On being informed, a team of police personnel rushed to the site and launched an investigation into the incident.
While the exact reason behind the firing was yet to be ascertained, the attack was suspected to have taken place due to a dispute over iron ore theft. Further details are awaited.
