Jharsuguda: In a tragic incident, one worker died and six others turned critical after highly toxic carbon monoxide gas leaked at a private pellet plant in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district on Tuesday afternoon.
According to preliminary information, one Barun Pradhan, a contract labourer was killed after carbon monoxide gas leaked at the unit of Orissa Metaliks Private Limited located at Budhipadar in Jharsuguda district.
Six others, who were severely affected by the toxic gas and turned critical, have been admitted to a private hospital in Jharsuguda for treatment. Their condition was stated to be critical.
The exact reason behind the gas lead is yet to be ascertained. Senior officials of the plant were not immediately available for sharing detailed information about the incident.
The deceased contract labourer Barun has been identified as a native of Kechhobahal under the jurisdiction of Brajrajnagar police station.
Tension prevailed at the industrial unit following the incident. Police personnel have been deployed at the site to prevent any untoward incident.
