10 Injured, 2 Of Them Critically, As AC Sleeper Bus Hits Toll Gate Divider In Odisha’s Kataka

Bus loses control in Kataka

Kataka: At least 10 people were injured, with two of them being in critical condition, after a bus was involved in an accident near Bandalo (Manguli) toll gate in Tangi area of Odisha’s Kataka district.

The Executive AC Sleeper coach bus, with around 40 people on board, was travelling from Jajpur to Bhubaneswar when it hit the divider at the toll gate on National Highway 16 at high speed on Sunday afternoon.

People nearby rushed towards the bus to help those on board the bus.

Tangi police and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) personnel rescued passengers and bus crew on reaching the site.

The injured were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Kataka for treatment.

Binod Behera Jena, lane assistant at the toll gate, said the bus was coming at a high speed, possibly at 100 kmph.

“It was initially heading towards lane No. 14 of the toll plaza but as some vehicles were standing on that lane, the bus suddenly took a diversion and tried to go towards lane No. 16. However, the driver could not control the vehicle and it hit the roadside divider,” Jena informed.

The sudden impact shook up the bus before it came to a halt, throwing several persons off their seats.
